Dr Ruth Jones/ Mr Bill Taylor Male Pelvic Pain & Men's Heatlh Physiotherapy

This highly practical course for the physiotherapist who wants to develop expertise in the assessment and treatment of the male pelvic floor and related conditions with an emphasis on male pelvic pain. Previously the course has attracted a spectrum of clinicians including experienced and new Women’s health physios, musculoskeletal & Sports physios ( male & female) who were keen to develop their scope of practice. This course will take physios through the anatomy of the male pelvic floor to becoming competent and confident in performing internal & external assessments. It will also combine traditional pelvic health skills with musculoskeletal skills to provide a more complete management of typical Men’s health conditions.

Tutor: Dr Ruth Jones PhD MCSP

 

Expert clinician, researcher, lecturer and writer. Ruth works clinically and consults to elite sports bodies and athletes including the FA. Speaker at international conferences and workshops related to movement, pelvic floor function and pain. Completed her PhD in 2010 at Southampton Uni in collaboration with Stanford University, USA which evaluated dynamic pelvic floor muscle function. Her team developed software for use with dynamic ultrasound, in order to promote further understanding of PFMF.Ruth will also present at WCPT2017 on Men's Health Physiotherapy with Prof Paul Hodges and Joanne Millios. She was also an invited speaker to the International Ultrasound Imaging Conference in Madrid in May 2016. Ruth's scope of practice extends from male and female pelvic pain, urinary and colorectal dysfuction, Ante  & Post Natal , Musculoskeletal to elite sports medicine.  She is also currently supervising  MSc and PHd students in Ireland, UK and South Africa and has multiple peer reviewed publications on Ultrasound imaging and other topics and is the co-editor of the core pelvic Pain Textbook " Chronic Pelvic Pain & Dysfunction". Mr BILL TAYLOR MCSP, MACP
Bill Taylor is an Edinburgh based Physiotherapist with 30 years experience in the treatment of pelvic dysfunction. He is widely recognised in the UK & internationally as being one of the leading pelvic health physios and one of the few who specialise in male pelvic floor dysfunction. He has a special interest in Chronic Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and the use of manual and exercise therapy in addressing this condition. He contributed a chapter to Chronic Pelvic Pain and Dysfunction and is currently exploring research into the effect manual therapy has on the pelvic floor. He alongside Ruth did a podcast for the MACP on “ Men’s Health Physio “ and he presented at #pelvicsummit16 on the role of Physiotherapy in Men’s health.
